Case study: Barn conversion inspiration to make you swoon
Rustic beams, a neutral colour palette and of course, a natural stone floor, allow the traditional beauty of this home to shine through – the epitome of barn conversion inspiration.Â
This beautiful home will be the envy of many thanks to its quiet style which exudes warmth and features many natural materials at its heart.
Our clients for this project shared the same passion as we hold for stone flooring including the variation featured in each tile and the many fossils and fissures that can be found in every piece.
The warm tones of our Montpellier antiqued limestone won their hearts in the end thanks to the softly aged surface and edge texture which is finished by hand. This is a hardwearing stone floor that simply gets better with age and proved to be the ideal choice for their barn conversion home.
Throughout the barn, our clients were keen to retain as many of its original features as possible. The rustic beams have been preserved and restored as have many of the solid wooden posts that make up the structure of the building. Traditional red brick walling also adds some extra warmth to the homely architectural style maintained throughout the house.
Separate living zones have been created through the simple, yet effective, positioning of furniture and lighting. Ceiling spotlights create subtle lighting in smaller spaces while statement pendants give emphasis to those areas used more frequently such as the kitchen island and dining space.
In the kitchen, an imposing Aga takes centre stage beneath a traditional white marble splashback. Neutral coloured cabinetry allows the space to breathe and the building’s historical features to shine through. This understated elegance continues into the living and dining space where many a dinner party will be enjoyed with family and friends.
Throughout the property, the homeowners’ eye for traditional design can also be seen in the antique furniture and historic decorative items which have been placed not only with style in mind but also comfort and practicality.
This is a home that will certainly retain its beauty and character for many decades to come. All the while, the antiqued limestone floor that creates continuity throughout will tell its own story through the patina it will gain from years of footfall and use – a characteristic that cannot be rivalled by any man-made material.
