Case study: Beige stone floor tiles for kitchen makeover

Rustic beige stone floor tiles, wood beams and the use of rich, earthy tones come together to create a kitchen that is both cosy and luxurious in this Newbury home.

Our Bourton buff limestone features throughout the open plan space, giving a feel of comfort and understated elegance thanks to its softly aged edges and delicate natural shell content. This stone features in our range of antique finish stone floors which are all created to replicate the look and feel of a genuine, old flagstone floor.

The homeowners worked closely with interior designers, The Hive, and cabinetry experts, Snug Kitchens, to bring the kitchen and dining space to life as part of a wider home renovation – creating a functional and beautiful room for their family to congregate in.

They chose a traditional shaker kitchen with beaded in-frame detailing and antique brass handles. Small nooks were also created for easy access to everyday appliances while preventing worktop clutter. The client’s wine collection has also been housed in a bespoke wine cellar installed into the floor of the space.

Founder and director of The Hive, Meg Springgay, wanted to provide the client with something warm and inviting – creating a design that can stand the test of time while also being a break from the norm.

Following a visit to our Newbury stone showroom, she proposed our beige stone tiles for the main flooring, alongside hardy reclaimed terracotta parquet tiles which were chosen for the property’s utility space.

Salvaged from redundant buildings in Europe, these reclaimed terracotta tiles feature a mix of warm tones, from sandy yellows through to a deep pink. Once installed, their character simply gets better with age and the more they are walked on.

Terracotta is a timeless, traditional look that will never go out of character. Alongside the white cupboards, it works to soften the space and continue the rich textures that feature in other areas of the home.

Of course, in any kitchen there could be an occasional spillage and we would always advise that spills are cleared up as quickly as possible. However, even if some staining does appear, the other benefit of a natural stone floor is that it can always be restored to its original beauty, even after decades of heavy use.
